About Us

Synergy Pilates & Yoga is open to men, women, and children over the age of 12. It is owned by Charmaine and Rod Gordon who have been serving Howard County for over 17 years with Synergy Women's Fitness.

Pilates

Charmaine B. Gordon, Owner

Charmaine has over 20 years experience as a group exercise instructor. She is classically trained in Pilates and holds a Comprehensive Certification from Peak Pilates. She also holds a Pilates for Golf certfication.

Michelle Dello-Russo, Director

Michelle also comes from a fitness background (certified personal trainer). She is classically trained in Pilates, holding a Comprehensive Peak Pilates Certificate. She received her Pilates for Golf certificate in August 2006 as well.


Yoga


Shirley Callis, Yoga Director

Shirley Callis, RYT 200, is a certified Raja Yoga instructor, an American Council on Exercise certified personal trainer and Spinning® instructor. He received his certification at the International Yoga Institute in Virginia Beach, Virginia where he trained exclusively with Yoga Master Ngoc Xuan Nguyen. Shirley considers yoga an essential part of any fitness regimen.


Patricia Barnes, Instructor

Patricia Barnes, MS, is an RYT 200 with over 25 years experience as an Occupational Therapist. She began her personal yoga practice over 30 years ago and completed her teaching certification through the Yoga Center of Columbia, Maryland in 2003. Her special interest areas include healthy aging, and management of pain and chronic conditions. Pat strives to adapt yoga to the individual and to assist each client to reach his or her full potential.


Amanda Bergner, Instructor

Amanda Bergner, MS, is an RYT 200, and a triathlete with over 9 years experience as a counselor. She began her personal yoga practice over 10 years ago and completed her teaching certification in Vinyasa yoga through Flow Yoga in Washington D.C. in 2008. Her special interest areas include yoga for athletes, yoga therapy, and mind-body medicine for management of pain and chronic conditions. Amanda is a joyful yoga teacher who works to help students integrate what they learn and experience on their yoga mats into the rest of their life.


Cindy DeRonde, Instructor

Cindy is certified through YogaFit in levels 1 through 5 with additional certifications in pre-natal/post-partum yoga and yoga for seniors. She has been teaching yoga for three years and approaches both her personal practice as well as her teaching from a fitness perspective while still honoring the mind body connection.


Karen Ferguson, Instructor

Karen Ferguson, MA, RYT 200, is a certified Interdisciplinary Yoga Instructor. She received her teacher training at the Nosara Interdisciplinary Yoga Institute in Costa Rica. Karen’s yoga and meditation practice began in 1974 in pursuit of a peaceful mind and a happy heart. Her studies led her to focus on assisting others in their self-inquiries as a psychotherapist in Howard County, MD from 1984-2004. She continues this work today as a Reiki Master and a Reconnective Healing practitioner, as well as in her yoga practice.


January Jordan, Instructor

January Jordan, CYT 200, is a certified Therapeutic Yoga instructor. She received her teaching certification through Yama Studio in Baltimore, Maryland. January found yoga while searching for a way to relieve stress and increase her flexibility. She enjoyed her private practice tremendously and decided to pursue her instructor’s certification. January feels that yoga is in no way an elitist practice and can benefit and be enjoyed by
all!


Julie Klopp

Julie Klopp, RYT200, has been practicing yoga since 1995 and teaching since 1999. She received teaching certifications from Inner City Yoga in Denver , Colorado in 1999 and from the Yoga Center of Columbia in 2005. Julie teaches an eclectic practice that draws from many traditions, including Iyengar, Ashtanga and Anusara. She believes that any practice, no matter how active, should create balance in the mind and body by having spaces of introspection and rest, encouraging each student to go inward into the stillness that is always there, even in the midst of activity.


Liz Schulman, Instructor

Liz Schulman, RYT 200, is a certified Hatha Yoga instructor. She completed her certification through the Yoga Center of Columbia in 2003. Liz integrates over 25 years of dance and musical theatre experience into her yoga practice. Her classes are a fun combination of body awareness, the joy of movement and postures, strength, flexibility, mindful breathing, and relaxation. More importantly, Liz loves sharing the joy of yoga.
